We’ve worked closely with experts in early years computing and chIld development to ensure every episode supports a confident, creative and resilient approach to problem-solving. Wonderblocks uses best-practice computational thinking, aligned to the EYSF (Early Years Foundation Stage) framework and KS1 curriculum.
The first step in solving any problem is to slow down, figure out what's happening and think about what you need to do.
Decide what to do and figure out what comes first. Work through the problem step by step.
Every plan needs to be put into action. Having a go, giving it a try are important parts of problem solving.
Is there something that needs to be repeated? Can you spot a connection to something you've done before?
Problems aren't always obvious, so you need to look closer and find out what's at the root of the issue.
If a problem is complex, it may need to be broken down into smaller parts or steps.
It's important to reflect on solutions and decide whether they have fixed the problem or not.
If the solution isn't working, it's time to stop and figure out what's going wrong and how to put it right.
Sometimes a problem needs a new idea or a different approach. Think creatively to find the answer.
Don't give up because you'll get there if you keep trying.
Listening, sharing ideas, working as a team - that's how you get the job done.
Wonderblocks is the new show that teaches problem-solving and thinking skills with all the humour, catchy songs and great stories that you’d expect from a ‘blocks show.
Using Thinking Magic, Wonderblocks demonstrates basic coding for pre-schoolers, teaching the importance of making a plan and doing the right things in the right order, but it’s not just about learning to code. Wonderblocks is for all children, helping them to develop essential thinking skills, teaching them to tackle problems with a positive outlook, to see obstacles as exciting challenges, to break problems down, to tackle them one step at a time, to feel confident, to experiment, create, persevere, to learn from mistakes as well as successes, to work together and, above all, to have fun!
At the heart of Wonderblocks are two lively, curious characters called GO and STOP, who are always wondering about the world around them. They have very different energies, but a shared love of exploring the world, finding out how it works, figuring things out and helping others.
GO is a cheerful, energetic, hands-on explorer, always ready to ‘give it a go’... and to worry about the consequences later. She’s like a super-positive life-coach; always encouraging everyone and helping them to be their best selves... although she can sometimes jump in without thinking.
STOP is a warm-hearted problem solver, kind and considerate, who takes a more cautious approach. She’s always the first to stop, consider the options and reflect on what’s happened. She’s great at appreciating how far she’s come and thinking about what might work better next time!
